Orjet Foundation’s online education program is a great platform for me. Besides learning new educational information, it gives me a wonderful opportunity to express my ideas, put up questions to my peer learners, challenge their thinking with mine… all in the medium of Indian Sign Language (ISL).

Aged 10 Years – Bhavnagar, GujaratI love interacting with Deaf children of my age who hail from different places of India. Orjet Foundation’s online Education program gives me double opportunities – gaining knowledge through ISL and meeting new friends from all over India. I really love doing art and craft and have asked the Orjet Foundation to introduce a training program on that. Hoping to learn more about the art and craft from an expert Deaf teacher.

Vishwa was to enter kindergarten in 2020 when nationwide lockdown happened. Schools were closed for nearly two years. I have been worrying about delayed schooling for my daughter. I found out that Orjet Foundation offered an online education program for deaf children and enrolled her immediately. To my happiness, Vishwa enjoys learning with her peers online and is keenly learning new information taught to her.

We live in a remote village in Maharashtra. There is no access to education for deaf children. We were overjoyed to discover that Orjet Foundation conducted online education through Indian Sign Language (ISL), the visual language of the Deaf people. We observed our son Pranav learn regularly and we are very delighted to say that he participated and enjoyed the online sessions.

My wife died when our son Umar was still a baby. I raised him for the first few years then I got remarried. I have been offended by the mockery over his deafness and muteness done to Umar by his hearing peers. Also, he was sad as he had no friends who could talk in ISL. Thanks to Orjet Foundation’s online Education program, Umar is happy to be able to make friends while learning new subjects online.

In Maharashtra, 14-year-old Himanshu Katekhaye has blossomed in English at Orjet Foundation. His mother rejoices as he progressed and developed a passion for English. However, as a Maharashtrian, Himanshu faces a challenge: the Marathi language dominates government affairs, and his mother urges him to learn it. Yet, Himanshu refuses due to the absence of sign language classes for Marathi. In response, his mother has appealed to Orjet Foundation to introduce these classes. With sign language classes, the foundation will have a wonderful opportunity to empower Himanshu as well as others like him to embrace their cultural heritage and thrive in a world of possibilities.
