Awareness Programme for Hearing parents of Deaf children

Over 90% of deaf children are born to hearing parents who are unaware about raising deaf children successfully; who also have misconceptions about deafness and sign language need a proper orientation towards deafness, deaf people, their sign language and deaf culture. They also need to see Deaf Role Models (DRMs) to believe what their deaf children can become. In that context, Orjet Foundation conducted a seminar on awareness for hearing parents of deaf children at Chandrapur village of Wankaner district of Gujarat. Our dynamic local Deaf leader Mr. Aejaz Parasara led the seminar and guided the hearing parents about deafness, ISL and its role in the educational development of deaf children and how necessary it was for hearing parents to learn and converse with their deaf children in ISL.
